SiCORE-PMSP Research Day 2023

On August 8-9, 2023, our research team had the distinct honor of hosting an on-site visit for members of our center's Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). The visit featured Prof. Andy Futreal, Ph.D., from MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States and Prof. Ruby Yun-Ju Huang, a distinguished scholar from National Taiwan University. The event was a significant occasion, providing an invaluable opportunity for cross-disciplinary exchange and strategic advisement.

Research Presentations

Prof. Futreal, Prof.Corless, and Prof. Huang enriched our team by presenting their latest research endeavors in the fields of cancer genomics and precision medicine. Prof. Futreal elaborated on the advances in oncogenic mutation identification, while Prof. Huang's talk focused on the role of the tumor microenvironment in cancer progression. Via Zoom, Prof.Corless shared with us his team effort on personalized cancer treatment selection via multi-omic efforts. These presentations offered our team a wider lens to understand the complexities of oncological research, enabling us to consider novel approaches for our ongoing projects.

Poster Sessions and Peer Review

One of the highlights of the visit was the interactive poster session where our research members had the opportunity to showcase their work. Prof. Futreal and Prof. Huang actively engaged in discussions, asking critical questions and offering insightful comments that not only sparked robust scientific dialogue but also provided actionable advice for the improvement of our research methodology. Their input will undoubtedly steer our future research toward more impactful outcomes.

Facility Tour

Our guests were also given a comprehensive tour of our major research centers at Siriraj, including SICRES, SISP Lab, and the ZebraFish lab. Each visit allowed them to gain an understanding of the cutting-edge technology and methodologies being employed across our institution, thereby fostering an environment for potential collaborative projects in the future.

Conclusion

The two-day SAB visit proved to be a mutually beneficial engagement for both our research team and the visiting scholars. We were able to leverage the experience and insights of renowned professionals in the field while providing them with an overview of our own pioneering work. We look forward to future collaborations and are committed to incorporating the valuable feedback received into our ongoing and upcoming research projects.
